Overview

Videora is a piece of software which simplifies downloading video off the internet. In order to do this, Videora communicates with a server to automate the process of retrieving lists of links, websites to search and by performing search requests on behalf of the program. This server is called the Open Videora Server and is composed of a MySQL database and a set of PHP scripts which run atop of an HTTP server.

openvid is a server utilized by clients to simplify downloading video off the internet, it is not a client itself, nor can you download video directly from the server. If you are looking for a client, see below.

Help Wanted

The main feature of the Open Videora Sever is its database of video title information. The database is maintained by a group volunteers so it may not have every short, show or movie you can think of, but we are doing are best to make it more accurate. We are always looking for more people to help out with this project, and one of the best ways is to help us enter shows or other information into the database. You do not have to have any programming experience to do this. All you need to know is how to fill out web forms and have some patience for this task. If you are interested please send us an e-mail and we can set you up with an account.

Since this is an open source project, you are more than welcome to help out with the PHP scripts that make up the server or help develop the main database if you have such knowledge. Just drop us an e-mail and we can probably find you something to do.

If you run an RSS feed, you could really help everyone out by following GART.

RSS Feeds

You have most likely come to this site looking for the latest list of BitTorrent Video RSS feeds. Click here to check out an HTML version of the data stored in the Open Videora Server. If you know of additional feeds not listed here, please send us an e-mail with the name and URL so it can be added to the database.

Videora Client

  • Videora - Official Windows client

Open Videora Servers

If you know of additional servers not listed here, please send us an e-mail with the name and URL so it can be added to the list.

  • OpenVid - Operated by the Open Videora Server Project. This is the central database
  • Videora - Server operated by the developers of the official Windows client. This is NOT a mirror of the official Open Videora Server and our project has nothing to do with their server (except they run our software).

Documentation

Right now we're too busy adding titles to the database to write up some documentation on the server, the database or even the protocols used to communicate with the Videora client, so for now you are on your own. We hope to change this in the future as we get more people helping out with the project. The following explains what is different between the two releases.

  • Software Release - The PHP code behind the OpenVid server, which interacts with a MySQL database to add/edit/delete/view information from the database
  • Database Release – The latest Structure and Data dumps from the official Open Videora MySQL database.

About

The Open Source Videora Server project was founded by the author of the official Videora client. He wrote the client and server software concurrently and decided to make the server software an open source project on Sourceforge. Since he is very busy with writing the client software, he has handed the project over to me, Dr. Galen, and my team of apes....err...volunteers.

Team

  • Dr. Galen, Administrator of the Open Videora Server Project, ripper/designer/writer of this webpage. Maintainer of the openvid database. Crazy ape who is a jack of all trades.

Thanks

We give thanks to the ABC development team whose website design we've blatently ripped off, the Opennap development team who's content we used as a model for this page and Sourceforge for hosting the central copy of the OpenVid server.

E-mail

If you have any questions or comments about the Open Videora Server Project, send them our way. We love new e-mail as much as we love fresh bananas.
